One of the greatest gifts you can give a young person is a solid financial foundation and it starts earlier than most people think.

Whether they've just landed their first part-time job after school or stepped into full-time work, the years when young adults are still living at home are genuinely one of the best financial opportunities they'll ever have. Expenses are low, responsibility is light, and every dollar saved has decades to grow. That window is precious and it goes fast.

The first lesson? Save, and save consistently.

The second? Learn about values-based spending. Knowing what actually matters to you whether that's a car at 18 or a home deposit a few years later and then aligning your cash flow with those priorities is a skill that will serve you for life.

And then there's investing. I'm really encouraged to see schools starting to bring this into the curriculum, because it matters so much. I was actually in a school earlier this year called out by a teacher who used to teach me, which was such a full-circle moment and being able to pass that knowledge on to the next generation was genuinely one of the highlights of my year.

Understanding that wealth is built through businesses, property, and other asset classes. Knowing which asset classes have historically delivered the highest returns. Learning about risk profiles and what kind of investor you are. These aren't things that should wait until your thirties the earlier they click, the better positioned you are for everything that comes next.
