One red flag I see when talking to new clients is when they want to get straight into the share market because they've seen how well it's done but haven't thought about the financial foundation of their life first.
Make sure your emergency fund covers 1-2 years, your insurances are in place, and the basics are set. The market can correct itself in 6 months and if something happens and you need to sell at a bad time, that locks in losses.
Foundation first, markets second.
