Most inheritances don't survive three generations Here's how to change that
Description
Most inheritances don’t survive three generations. Here’s how to change that.
If your goal is to leave a legacy that lasts beyond your own lifetime, it takes more than simply passing down assets. It requires structure, clarity and early planning.
Start with a well-written will and make sure it reflects what you actually want to happen. For many families, a testamentary trust is a smart option. It allows wealth to be passed on at the right time, to the right beneficiaries, and with protection around how and when it’s accessed. This is especially important if you want children or grandchildren to inherit when they’re mature enough to manage money responsibly.
If leaving a legacy isn’t a major goal and you simply want to enjoy your life and spend what you’ve earned, that’s perfectly valid too. Whatever is left - usually the home and any remaining assets - will naturally pass to the next generation.
But if generational wealth matters to you, the key is planning well in advance, setting up the right structures and making sure everything is documented properly.
