Maximising concessional contributions
Description
Want to maximise your concessional super contributions this financial year?
For the 2026 financial year, the concessional contribution cap is $32,500.
This cap includes your employer’s super guarantee contributions, so before adding extra, it’s important to check how much your employer is already contributing.
For example, if your employer contributes $10,000 into your super, you may have around $22,500 remaining that you could contribute concessionally.
One simple way to do this is through salary sacrifice, where you ask payroll to redirect a set amount from your pay into super before it reaches your bank account.
These contributions are generally taxed at 15% inside super, which may be lower than your marginal tax rate.
Just be mindful not to go over the cap. If you do, it may be treated differently for tax purposes, and you may need to pay extra tax at tax time.
A great reminder to check your numbers, understand your cap, and make your super work harder for you.
