Farmer Edition Tax deferral versus tax minimisation

25 Jun 2026 · 1:00 · Watch on YouTube

Description

Tax minimisation and tax deferral are often used interchangeably, but they’re actually two very different strategies.

Tax deferral is about managing when income is recognised. For some industries, like agriculture, tools such as Farm Management Deposits (FMDs) can help smooth income between high and low earning years, making cash flow more manageable over time.

Tax minimisation, on the other hand, focuses on reducing your taxable income through legitimate strategies. This may include making concessional superannuation contributions or utilising unused carry-forward contribution caps where eligible.

The right strategy depends on your income, industry, future goals and overall financial position.

The important thing isn’t avoiding tax. It’s understanding the options available and making informed decisions that support your long-term financial outcomes.
