Should I wait for rate cuts to get a loan or just lock in funding now? #funding
Description
The latest inflation figures for the March 2026 quarter have come in at 3.5% considerably higher than the RBA's target cash rate of 2.5%. Because of this, we can likely expect the RBA to start lifting interest rates over the coming months, typically in increments of 0.25% or 0.5%.
So what does this actually mean for you? If you have a mortgage or variable rate debt, your repayments will likely creep up as the RBA moves. But if you've got cash sitting in the bank good news! Your savings account rate should rise too, so holding onto cash right now really does work in your favour.
If you've been sitting on the fence about taking on debt, there's not a lot of reason to wait it out. With everything going on in the world, rates aren't expected to fall anytime soon. That said, the most important thing is to make sure you're borrowing within your means. It's worth sitting down and running the numbers... if rates were to rise by another 0.5% or even 1%, could you still comfortably make your repayments? That's the question to ask yourself before signing on the dotted line.
As always, I'm here if you want to chat through what any of this means for your situation
