Are foreign institutions interested in Australian residential property?

I’m interested to know whether the foreign owned institutions are keen to invest into Australian residential investments. There’s lots of noise on the Internet at the moment that is suggesting that this is the case. So if you have any information on this, please send through a link. Normally big institutions do not invest into residential property and focus on commercial properties where they are dealing with larger clients in preference to lots of individual renters. I also believe most foreign institutions at the moment more interested in shorting the Australian banks who have significant exposure to Australian residential property as it’s been reported. There is nearly $11 billion worth of shorts against Australia’s big four banks.
