If you were to start at ZERO as a financial advisor, what would you do? #financialfreedom

Description

First things first: get a job. Ideally a well-paying one, but more importantly, one that gives you the income to start building from. Then save as much as you possibly can.

Personally, I do value home ownership, so my first savings goal would be a deposit but I wouldn't put every spare dollar towards that. I'd also be setting a little aside into an investment account at the same time, because owning a home is one piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture.

The bigger goal for me is being able to retire on my own terms and that might mean before 60, which is when we can access superannuation in Australia. So while I'd absolutely be contributing to super throughout my working life, I'd also be building an investment portfolio outside of super that I could lean on earlier if I wanted to step back before that preservation age.

The formula isn't complicated, but it does require consistency. Get the income, get the foundations right, automate your cash flow so saving happens without you having to think about it, and then just let time do its thing.
